For its debut at Design Miami Paris, Galerie Negropontes presents HALGA, a monumental installation by Italian artist Gianluca Pacchioni as part of the Design at Large programme.The three monumental sculptures in oxidised iron — Halga II, Halga IV and Halga VI — take their place in the garden of the historic mansion, forming a landscape of rising forms. Brought together in this configuration for the first time, the works create a cohesive ensemble in which sculpture, historic architecture and vegetation enter into dialogue.

Conceived as a sculptural installation, HALGA brings together three works, each three metres tall, to form a single spatial composition. The title Halga, a poetic variation on the Italian word “alga” (“seaweed”), evokes the aquatic world. This reference finds expression in the fluid lines and organic branches that make up the sculptures. Like marine plants swaying in the currents, the forms seem to unfold upwards while retaining a sense of perpetual movement. The installation is grounded in a dual tension that runs through the entire series: on the one hand, a persistent, almost architectural verticality; on the other, an expansive force that opens up the forms without ever closing them. Gianluca Pacchioni describes this dynamic as the very origin of the project: an ascending energy constantly traversed by a movement of release. These three sculptures also echo the gallery’s programme for this year and its connections to Brancusi’s legacy. Their upward momentum recalls the Endless Column, an emblem of elevation and the transcendence of material limits. Pacchioni offers an organic, contemporary interpretation, in which the twisting forms and the play of light extend the exploration of the relationships between sculpture, space and perception.

Installed outdoors, the work transforms with changing light conditions and the movement of visitors. The arrangement of the three sculptures creates an open field of perspectives and pathways in which the forms continually reconfigure themselves. More than a group of works, HALGA offers an experience of landscape in which matter, light and space become elements of a single composition.
