Architectural Landscapes
From April 17 to November 22, 2025, in Venice, Galerie Negropontes, in partnership with Heritage Asset Management, presents Architectural Landscapes, an exhibition that invited to explore a unique architectural vision. The works of Gianluca Pacchioni, Pinton, and Perrin & Perrin engage in a compelling dialogue with the iconic spaces of the Palazzina Masieri, Carlo Scarpa’s masterpiece. As part of the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale, this exhibition explores the delicate interplay between contemporary creation and historic heritage. It transforms the Palazzina into a dynamic stage where art and architecture converge, weaving a narrative of form, materiality, and continuity.
On the ground floor, the exhibition recreates an imaginary garden where Gianluca Pacchioni’s monumental sculptures dialogue with a lush tapestry crafted by the Pinton manufactory. Pacchioni’s sculptures speak of abstract desires and organic intentions, taking us into a complex sensory world where beauty keeps us alive against all forms of control and authority. This evocative landscape, where materiality finds harmony between artwork and setting, unearths a forgotten chapter of the building’s history.
The garden’s concept draws inspiration from a 1954 Minosse magazine article, in which Venetian architect Duilio Torres countered criticism of Frank Lloyd Wright’s “contemporary graf” proposal for the Grand Canal. Rather than Wright’s grand vision, Torres envisioned an “architectural pause“ – a space defined by subtraction, not addition – which he named “Giardino Masieri“.
Seventy years later, four bronze sculptures by Gianluca Pacchioni rise from reinforced concrete blocks, standing boldly before the Grand Canal. This striking scenography reinterprets the forest envisioned by Torres, creating a dynamic dialogue with a tapestry from the Pinton manufactory depicting a lush landscape, based on a cartoon by the painter Roger Mühl.
The first floor of the exhibition reveals a delicate interplay between the materiality of glass and Carlo Scarpa’s architectural legacy. Perrin & Perrin’s glass sculptures, depicting urban fragments and city plots, are showcased alongside a presentation of Scarpa’s distinctive geometries and graphics.
Renowned for their innovative work with glass, duo Perrin & Perrin challenge the limits of transparency, opacity, and fragility, crafting intricate miniature architectural compositions. Their works achieve a powerful resonance within a textured installation that draws inspiration from Carlo Scarpa’s motifs. The geometric lines and delicate details of their sculptures are reimagined through a contemporary lens, forming an immersive landscape where art and architecture converge.
Perrin & Perrin’s work, with its seamless balance of modernity and timelessness, perfectly integrates into this tribute to Scarpa. Their sculptures establish a visual continuity with the master’s meticulous delineations and architectural expressions. They encourage a thoughtful consideration of how landscapes, both natural and designed, dynamically engage with their contexts. This section of the exhibition serves as a crossroads where architecture, design, and urbanity converge, transforming material into a universal language infused with emotion and memory.
The second floor of the Palazzina will feature multiple exhibitions. First, a series of photographs by artist Garo Minassian will illustrate the concept of the imaginary garden.
Then, from May to July, a collaboration with IUAV will present Scarpa-Zanon, Dialoghi , celebrating the remarkable partnership between Carlo Scarpa and the Zanon craftsmen – Gino, Paolo, and Francesco. Born from a chance encounter, this collaboration yielded some of the most iconic details found in architectural masterpieces like the Antonio Canova Gypsotheca in Possagno, the Olivetti showroom, the Querini Stampalia Foundation’s spaces, and the Brion funerary complex.
In September, as part of the Venice Design Biennale and Venice Glass Week, the Palazzina will host a new series of installations featuring an exquisite selection of design objects and artist-designed jewellery.
Galerie Negropontes invites visitors to discover the exhibition “Architectural Landscapes” from April 17 to November 22, 2025, at Galerie Negropontes, Palazzina Masieri, Venice.
