Daniel Humair

Daniel Humair was born on May 23rd, 1938 in Geneva, Switzerland. He is considered one of the best jazz drummers in the world. Self-taught, he won his first music prizes at the age of sixteen. At 20, he moved to Paris to pursue his passion for jazz. He worked with some of the best musicians of the time such as Don Byas, Chet Baker, Eric Dolphy and Martial Solal.

In addition to his musical career, Humair has been painting since 1963. His abstract expressionist paintings can be found in many public and private collections. His interest in the relationship between the visual arts and music has led him to work on numerous film and television scores, both as a composer and as a solo performer. Daniel Humair does not want to be seen as a musician who paints. He is a painter in his own right. Defining his painting as “narrative abstraction”, he has built up an extensive body of work that reflects his passion for painting and his knowledge of art history.
