Benjamin Poulanges' paint work on his ceramics is similar to a three-dimensional pictorial approach. His creations are raw, deliberately minimal, borrowing humble, ancestral and common forms such as the bowl, the jar, the jug, the amphora... “I consider all these forms as three-dimensional canvases, which depending on the angle and bearing dissonances, reveal differing and shifting paintings” explains Benjamin Poulanges. On these oversized substrates, chosen for their essential purity, the solid tints of paint - gestures of freedom - divert these objects from their everyday functionality or even decorative duty, to confer upon them the nobility of art works.
